Nimish R. Desai is a partner in our San Francisco office. He has extensive experience in false claims act and mass tort litigation, and has also worked on several nationwide consumer class actions and personal injury cases. He was a lead attorney on a whistleblower action against a major California hospital system for false billing that ended in a record $46 million settlement in November 2013. Prior to that, Nimish worked on a whistleblower action against a military contractor for selling defective products to the United States military, which resulted in a $37 million settlement. Nimish also worked on litigation against Toyota for sudden acceleration problems in its vehicles, and against Pfizer on litigation related to its prescription drugs Bextra and Celebrex. Due to his science background, Nimish also works on the firm’s environmental cases and investigations, including litigation on behalf of property owners following the Kingston, Tennessee coal ash spill.
Nimish was named a Super Lawyer in 2013, and a Northern California Rising Star in 2012. He is currently in his third year on the Board of the East Bay Community Law Center, and served on the Board of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California for two years. He is also a member of the State Bar of California, American Bar Association, Bar Association of San Francisco, and Consumer Attorneys of California.
In addition to his degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, Nimish earned a B.S. with high honors in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. in the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program from the University of Texas at Austin.
Nimish has published several legal and scientific articles, including “American Chemistry Council v. Johnson: Community Right to Know, But About What?” Ecology Law Quarterly, Winter 2006, and “Analysis of Motor Vehicle Emissions in a Houston Tunnel during Texas Air Quality Study 2000,” Atmospheric Environment, 38, 3363-3372 (2004). He also serves as a contributor to the LexisNexis publication California Class Actions and Coordinated Proceedings.
