Michael J. Engle is a partner in the Philadelphia based law firm of Greenblatt, Pierce, Engle, Funt & Flores, LLC (GPEFF). Mr. Engle leads the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense & Corporate Investigations practice as well as GPEFF’s Federal Criminal Defense group. As a recent past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (PACDL) Mr. Engle has represented the interests of criminal defense attorney’s throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Engle’s practice includes typical state court criminal matters, federal criminal cases, complex white collar defense matters, internal or parallel investigations on behalf of corporations and other entities, select civil litigation matters, as well as the representation of attorneys and other professionals in disciplinary/licensing matters. Mr. Engle has handled numerous cases in the Pennsylvania state courts as well as federal courts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, where his practice includes the representation of individuals, professionals, public officials, corporations, closely held companies, and other organizations.
Mr.Engle has significant experience in defending white collar defendants in the most intricate state and federal prosecutions, as well as in guiding businesses and other entities through the complexities of an internal or parallel investigation. He also has defended numerous federal criminal cases and frequently represents individuals and organizations in connection with grand jury subpoenas. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Engle has tried numerous jury trials and he has been successful in handling every category of Pennsylvania crime including homicide, assault, robbery, firearms offenses, DUI, among many other offenses.
Mr.Engle currently serves as the co-chair of PACDL’s white collar practice committee and as the Vice-Chairperson of the Philadelphia Chapter of PACDL. In 2011, Mr. Engle was elected as a Fellow of the prestigious American Board of Criminal Lawyers (ABCL) and he has earned the preeminent AV rating from Martindale-Hubell for both legal ability and ethical standards. In 2013, Mr. Engle was identified as one of the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” by the National Trial Lawyers and one of the “Top 10 Criminal Defense Attorneys in Pennsylvania” by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He is also consistently selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the area of criminal defense and holds a perfect 10.0 rating from AVVO. In 2014, Mr. Engle was selected for inclusion on The Best Lawyers in America list for criminal defense.
Mr. Engle is a frequent speaker on topics involving white collar practice, grand jury matters, federal criminal litigation and other criminal law topics. Mr. Engle is a former adjunct professor in the criminal justice department of Delaware County Community College where he taught classes on criminal law, criminal procedure and juvenile delinquency. Mr. Engle is also a published author of three academic articles in the fields of sociology and criminology, and he is a frequent lecturer at Villanova University where he discusses the topic of serial murder.
