A believer in the old adage that "Good Lawyers Never Lose Their Appeal," Gordon Widenhouse focuses primarily on civil and criminal appellate litigation in federal and state courts, post-conviction practice, and criminal defense litigation with the firm of Rudolf Widenhouse & Fialko since 1998. Mr. Widenhouse, a former Assistant Appellate Defender and Assistant Federal Public Defender, has been involved in more than 450 appeals in various courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. He frequently represents clients in civil, criminal, and domestic cases in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the Supreme Court of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He has handled the most complex appeals, including numerous clients on death row, and also has a large practice in sentencing and post-conviction matters. He has considerable experience and success litigating motions for appropriate relief, petitions for writs of habeas corpus, and motions under 28 U.S.C. s 2255.

He has lectured widely at more than 200 national and state continuing legal education seminars, has written more than 75 articles that have been published in legal journals. He periodically teaches various courses at six North Carolina law schools. Mr. Widenhouse is a former President of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the founder of its Wade Edwards High School Mock Trial Program, and former chair of its Criminal Law Section.
