José Miguel Júdice is one of PLMJ’s founders. With almost 40 years’ experience in legal practice, he currently heads PLMJ’s Arbitration team and his name has been associated with important arbitration cases, submitted to the ICC, NAI, Câmara de Madrid, UNCITRAL, ICSID and the Lisbon and Oporto Arbitration Centres. He is leading the first ICSID case with Portuguese counsel and has chaired arbitration tribunals subject to Brazilian, Spanish, French, Angola, Portuguese laws and BITs. José Miguel Júdice is recognised by Chambers as a Star Individual and is considered Tier 1 by the Legal 500, PLC-Which Lawyer, Who’s Who and Best Lawyers directories. He has published articles in international and national legal reviews on arbitration, as well as the books Capital Market Profile and Takeover – Annotated Legislation. He has been President of Portuguese Bar Association and its Human Rights Institute and is a member of the IBA – International Bar Association. He is author of the dispute resolution chapter of the Coimbra law faculty’s magna opus on “Petroleum Law” and co-authored, among others books, Portugal – A. He is a member of the board of Portuguese Arbitration Association and Clube Español de Arbitraje and member of Association Suisse d’Arbitrage; Brazilian Arbitration Committee; Editorial Council of “European Lawyer” and “Iberian Lawyer”. He is also a member of the board of the Centre de Médiation de l’Europe, de la Méditerranée et du Moyen Orient; the Institute for Transnational Arbitration and is the Portuguese Country Reporter and a member of LCIA London. He is also a member of arbitration centre rosters in Brazil, Spain, Mozambique, South Korea, the ICSID Roster of Arbitrators and Conciliators, the ICC International Court of Arbitration and President of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arbitration Centre. He is a visiting associate professor of the Lisbon MBA (business law), Universidade Nova (dispute resolution) and University Institute of Lisbon (energy and politics).
