Jonathan H. Canter represents leading developers, lenders, borrowers and investors in a full range of real estate transactions, including the acquisition, sale, financing and leasing of a variety of property types, with a particular focus in the area of condominiums, cooperatives and shared-ownership regimes. Mr. Canter advises on the planning, development, structuring and implementation of sophisticated ownership, operation and management regimes, as well as on the registration, marketing and sale of luxury condominium offerings, including the promulgation of offering plans and related regulatory filings with state and federal authorities. He brings his prior experience as a litigator to his real estate work, shaping transactions to help his clients avoid lawsuits and providing strategic counseling when disputes do occur.

Described by Legal 500 as “the lead on all things condo,” Mr. Canter represents a roster of New York’s prominent real estate players in connection with some of the highest-profile projects in recent years. He continues to play a key role in the development of Hudson Yards by Related Companies. When completed, the 26-acre site in midtown Manhattan will contain over 13 million square feet of commercial and residential space. Mr. Canter’s work on the project to date involves structuring a projectwide ownership association and management regime to govern all the individual development parcels on the site; creating a commercial condominium structure for 10 Hudson Yards (the 1.7 million-square-foot planned office tower at the southwest corner of West 30th Street and 10th Avenue); devising a separate condominium ownership structure for 15 Hudson Yards (the 800,000-square-foot tower at the southeast corner of West 30th Street and 11th Avenue), which will include hundreds of residential apartments (both for-sale condos and an affordable-housing rental component) and a condominium unit for the Culture Shed, a 170,000-square-foot visual and performing arts center with a 16,000-square-foot expandable outdoor shed; and creating and executing an ownership structure for a third development within Hudson Yards, which will include Time Warner’s new world headquarters and a 1 million-square-foot retail complex.

Mr. Canter has facilitated the registration, marketing and sale of many of the marquee luxury condominium offerings in New York City, including 432 Park Avenue, 56 Leonard Street, 30 Park Place Four Seasons Residences, 150 Charles Street, 10 Madison Square West, the Whitney Townhouses, The Carlton House, One Riverside Park, One West End Avenue, 400 Park Avenue South, The Mark Hotel, One Central Park at Time Warner Center, and the redevelopment of the iconic Plaza Hotel into luxury residences, for-sale hotel suites and world-class retail.
