Jury found actions of prosecutor in going to press and creating false impression that his former chief criminal deputy had stolen funds and was under investigation by Washington State Patrol to be defamatory and outrageous.
Joyce v. Department of Corrections — $22.4 million jury verdict for family of young mother killed by offender who was supposed to have been under supervision by Washington State Department of Corrections. Offender committed over 100 violations of the terms and conditions of his supervision without State holding him accountable. Finally killed mother of four young children.
Brown v. City of Seattle — Case against Seattle Fire Department on behalf of widow of firefighter killed as a result of fire department negligence. Seattle fire department failed to properly warn firefighters of known arson threat, failed to properly prepare for fire, fought fire improperly (including directing firefighters into building on second floor believing that it was the first floor); $5.6 million jury verdict for widow.
Smith v. OK Boys Ranch — Over $55 million in settlements for adolescent boys severely sexually and physically abused at Washington group home. Case involved changes in the way group home care is handled within the State of Washington and held State accountable for failure to properly supervise and regulate group home care.
Kenny Salvini v. Ski Lifts Inc. — $31 million verdict (less comp. fault/assump. risk) against Terrain Park due to defective ski jump. One of first successful cases involving failure of ski resorts and terrain parks to formulate safety standards in construction of ski jump landings.
