John P. McDonald, one of two partners at the firm of McDonald & Rogers, LLC, concentrates almost exclusively on State and federal litigation cases. Mr. McDonald represents clients in both civil and criminal litigation, as well as employees of corporations being investigated for white collar crimes. In addition, Mr. McDonald has made numerous appearances before the NJ Supreme Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, the Supreme Court of the United States, and the United States Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit.
Mr. McDonald has been included in the list of The Best Lawyers in America since 1995, marking 20 consecutive years receiving this honor. He was the recipient of the Legal Services of New Jersey’s Equal Justice Medal Award (2010) and the Professional Lawyer of the Year Award (2012) awarded by the N.J. Commission on Professionalism.
In addition, Mr. McDonald also has served as a volunteer attorney for the Legal Services of Northwest Jersey since 1995 and is the legal representative for the Watchung Borough (Somerset County) Board of Adjustment since 1998. Mr. McDonald also currently sits on the Board of the Center for Great Expectations, a position he has held since May of 2009. The N.J. State Bar Association recognized Mr. McDonald as Somerset County’s Committee for Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments representative for the period 1998 through 2004.
Non-professional honors include being named by St. Mary’s Church in Watchung, NJ as Parishioner of the Year for 2006
Mr. McDonald is a 1979 graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law and was admitted to the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and the Supreme Court of New Jersey that same year. He was admitted to the Eastern District of New York and Southern District of New York (1986); the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (1981), and the Supreme Court of the United States (1996). In 1980, Mr. McDonald, along with his partner Michael J. Rogers, established McDonald & Rogers, LLC.
