John A. Bannerman grew up in Grants, New Mexico, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico in 1969 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1972. He was an editor of the New Mexico Law Review and the Natural Resources Journal in 1971 and 1972. Bannerman is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in New Mexico and before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Bannerman is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, a former Director of the Trial Practice Section, and he is a former Chair and a current member of the Health Law Section. He belongs to the American Health Lawyers Association, the ABA Health Law Section, the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute and he is the Chair of the New Mexico State Bar Professional Liability Committee. He is rated “av” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. During his career, Bannerman has been a U.S. Navy Judge Advocate, has appeared in courts and agencies throughout New Mexico in the areas of health and environmental law and employment law, and has handled other complex litigation involving insurance, product liability, and professional liability.
Bannerman has been listed in Best Lawyers in America from 1993 to present, Southwest Super Lawyers, Who’s Who in American Law in 1992 to present, and American Lawyer and Corporate Counsels’ list of Top Commercial Litigators in 2006 and 2009.
