Jeffrey B. Keiper is a Shareholder in the Cleveland, Ohio office of Jackson Lewis P.C. and serves as the Litigation Manager for the Cleveland office. He obtained his law degree with honors at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he was an Associate Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. Mr. Keiper also received a master’s degree from Indiana University and his undergraduate degree from The College of Wooster (Phi Beta Kappa). Mr. Keiper is admitted to practice law in federal and state courts in Ohio, federal courts in Washington and Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
For the past 20 years, Mr. Keiper has devoted his practice exclusively to several areas of management side employment and labor law. Mr. Keiper has successfully defended complex labor-related lawsuits, as well as single- and multi-plaintiff employment litigation matters for large manufacturing and service companies in a wide variety of state and federal courts, as well as state and federal agencies such as the OCRC, EEOC and NLRB. He also has significant experience representing employers in the food production, pharmaceutical, chemical components (buffers and reagents) and other manufacturing industries in a variety of traditional labor relations matters, including unfair labor practice charges, labor arbitrations, collective bargaining and representation cases.
Mr. Keiper has particularly extensive experience advising and defending employers in connection with discharge arbitrations, sexual harassment and other employment discrimination claims, as well as the full range of wrongful discharge claims. He also frequently provides training and consultation relative to such matters, including preventive strategies, union avoidance and practical solutions. Mr. Keiper has an “AV” Rating in Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, which is the highest possible rating for legal competence and ethical standards. Mr. Keiper was featured in the September 2008 issue of Forbes magazine (Ohio and Pennsylvania distribution) as one of Ohio’s preeminent labor and employment lawyers. Mr. Keiper has been selected by his peers as an Ohio Super Lawyer in 2010 – 2014 and featured in such capacity in Law and Politics magazine. Mr. Keiper was named a “Leader in the Field” in Ohio in Labor and Employment Law in the 2011 – 2014 Chambers USA Legal Guide. He additionally was included in the 2015 Best Lawyers in Americalist.
Mr. Keiper has conducted numerous private seminars for employers, management representatives and insurance companies concerning equal employment opportunity law, non-discrimination/non-harassment, arbitration procedures, union prevention and related supervisory training, leave issues and employee discipline. He has published articles for the Cleveland Bar Journal (“Taking Sides on Neutrality”) and has appeared on local television to discuss regional labor law matters.
