Jim LaVaute is Managing Partner of the firm and practices from the firm's Syracuse, New York office. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee, appointed by President Sweeney in March, 2009. The Committee was founded to better the conditions of working men and women and their families by enhancing the quality of legal representation that is available to the AFL-CIO. The LCC is comprised of more than 1,700 union-side labor lawyers in more than 500 firms and union legal departments nationwide.
Jim is Past Chair (2008) of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section, which is comprised of over 22,000 labor law attorneys from all over the United States. He is a Founding Governor and Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. He served as Co-Chairman of the ABA's Committee on the Development of the Law under the National Labor Relations Act.
He was an Editor of The Developing Labor Law, Third Edition (B.N.A. - A.B.A). He has presented at legal programs throughout the country, and has taught in Cornell University's Extension Division, Labor Studies Program.
