JIM HOENIG, J.D., PhD. (psychology)
Jim Hoenig is the only person in Hawaii listed in the “Family Law Mediation” category in The Best Lawyers in America and in Honolulu Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Hawaii. He is also listed in "Mediation" and "Arbitration," and he is the Arbitration Lawyer of the Year (2015) for Hawaii.
Jim has over 20 years experience as a full-time mediator and arbitrator specializing in difficult and complex family and business matters.
Jim graduated first in his class from Stanford and Stanford Law School. He was Law Review President, and he later served as Law Clerk to the Chief Justice of the United States.
He is the author of "Divorce Mediation Basics," (The Practical Lawyer, July 1997), “Guide to Creative Mediation” (Dispute Resolution Journal, Spring 1997), “Practitioner’s Guide to Mediation” (Hawaii Bar Journal, Jan. 1998), and numerous other articles on Family Law dispute resolution.
Jim has recently received awards from The Mediation Center of the Pacific (Outstanding Leadership in Mediation), Hawaii State Bar Association ('Ikena Award for Education), and Hawaii Family Court (for outstanding mediation service).
Lawdragon Magazine (in its survey, “500 Leading Judges in America”) said about Jim: “When Hawaii couples call it quits, he’s the mediator of choice to resolve contentious disputes.”
Confidential — All of the hundreds of mediations and arbitrations I have done over the past 20+ years are confidential. Suffice to say that many have involved publically recognizable names and that many have involved very substantial financial issues.
