Jim is a Member in Stoll Keenon Ogden's Louisville office, and has been with the firm since 1998. He is a member of the State & Federal Tax Practice as well as the Trusts & Estates Practice. His practice focuses on advising clients on a wide range of tax and business planning matters with particular emphasis on like kind exchanges, business sales and reorganizations, implementation of employee stock ownership plans, all aspects of business start-ups and the facilitation of business succession plans and business divorces. He defends clients in tax audits, appeals and litigation.

Gardner v. U.S. (W.D. Ky. 2008) — IRC § 6672 refund action. Jury verdict for taxpayer.
Storage and Office Systems LLC v. United States, (S.D. Ind. 2007) — Wrongful levy/successor liability case. Summary Judgment for taxpayer.
Costs awarded against government.

Ronald D. Steiner v. Jack Coffee (Jefferson Circuit Court 2006) — Successful defense in partnership divorce action; obtained injunction
against distributions from company to plaintiff.
Kentucky Dental Association v. Francis D. Abell, DMD, et al. (Lead case) (W.D. Ky. 2002) — Interpleader action regarding Anthem demutualization proceeds and over
300 defendants and Internal Revenue Service private letter ruling.
