Specialized in construction law, Guy Gilain has considerable experience in litigation and contractual issues. His clientele is composed of public and private companies, general and specialized contractors, as well as equipment suppliers. He also represents national and multinational companies, as well as various construction industry associations. He has earned a solid reputation as a seasoned litigator with respect to long-lasting litigious construction matters.
Mr. Gilain provides advice on the full scope of issues regarding construction contracts, whether relative to negotiating, drafting, financing, and handling claims, expense management or administrative management matters (construction permits) for all types of construction projects, including major civic works (dams, pipelines, etc.), commercial and industrial buildings, residential complexes, and infrastructures. In addition, Mr. Gilain has represented clients in the resolution of serious disputes by mediation or arbitration, and has occasionally acted as an arbitrator and a mediator.
He is the co-author, with Mr. David H. Kauffman, of the book The Construction Hypothec, published in 2008, a comprehensive study of the construction lien system and related construction law in Québec.
