Mr. Gitlin’s firm, the Gitlin Law Firm, P.C. in Woodstock, Illinois, exclusively handles family law cases. Attorney Gitlin was honored with the Michael S. Cohen award "for continuing commitment and contribution to the professional education of matrimonial lawyers." Gunnar has lectured nationally and in Illinois for organizations including Law Education Institute in Colorado, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (National and Illinois), the American Bar Association, the ISBA, the Illinois Attorneys General, various local bar associations (including DuPage County, Kane County, Northwest Suburban, McHenry County, Lake County, and Winnebago County), the DePaul University Graduate School of Taxation, the Northern Illinois Law Review Symposium, Illinois Family Support Enforcement Association, and to the Illinois Attorneys General. Gunnar has been the author of three chapters on behalf of IICLE publications including two chapters regarding custody and one regarding business valuation. As a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Gunnar has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Chapter from 1997 through 2003, 2006-07 and again from 2011-13. He has served as Vice President of the Board of Directors and as chair and co-chair of their CLE committee for the Illinois Chapter. He was co-chair for several years for the AAML's Institute for Training Matrimonial Associates. In 2007, Gunnar was also given the President's Special Recognition Award by the Illinois Chapter of the AAML. Gunnar is a member of the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association, the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. He was honored by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education as a “Master Teacher.” Through IICLE and their Master Teacher program he has conducted four day long seminars overt the course of the past decade focusing on child support and maintenance.
