Gillian has extensive experience representing licensed professionals in disputes with their regulators, including in discipline and, in particular, fitness to practise proceedings. In addition, she frequently acts in other administrative matters, including applications before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Most recently she acted as co-counsel to the physicians at the Coroner’s Inquest into the death of Ashley Smith. In her non-regulatory practice, Gillian regularly represents victims of sexual abuse and assault and has a specialized understanding of the duties of procedural fairness and natural justice as they relate to both vulnerable witnesses and historical allegations.
Ms. Hnatiw has helped many healthcare professionals to resolve issues involving their respective Colleges and to defend malpractice lawsuits. In addition, she has considerable experience representing physicians before various administrative tribunals including the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, the Consent and Capacity Board, the Ontario Human Rights Commission and at Coroner’s Inquests. She is available to provide guidance and advice on employment issues, workplace policies and procedure, practice and partnership disputes, and privacy issues.
