Eva Schmieg is a member of our Corporate and Commercial Group. She has extensive experience in financing transactions for television and feature motion picture productions as well as international co-productions. She acts on behalf of producers in structuring such transactions and for several of the Canadian chartered banks. She represents small independent producers as well as major studios in connection with general production-related entertainment matters including talent contracts and negotiations, writer's agreements, production contracts, errors and omissions insurance matters as well as intellectual property issues. She advises producers in the structuring of their transactions to obtain assistance from various government tax credit programmes and funding agencies. Her corporate law experience involves counselling clients in the formation of appropriate business organizations, general financing and securitization considerations and intellectual property issues concerning technology transfer.
Eva was key on the first gaming financing by a Canadian chartered bank and Microsoft’s first live action production "Forward Unto Dawn", in support of their Halo 4 launch. She has also been involved with several animation firms with significant U.S. partners, as well as their proprietary projects, on many productions.
Eva is a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia (Law School and Film Studies) and at Capilano University, as well as a sought-after speaker at various film festival trade forums.
Eva is among the lawyers repeatedly recommended by her peers according to the annual survey conducted by Lexpert.
