As a member of the Trial Department, David specializes in the litigation of complex domestic relations cases. He has successfully prosecuted, defended and counseled his clients in both Maine state and federal courts in family law matters involving the equitable distribution of real estate and personal property interests, retirement and pension assets, and the valuation of business interests. David has also litigated contested custody cases including international child abduction cases litigated in federal court under the Hague Convention in the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
In addition to being well-respected as a family law practitioner David is a certified player agent with Major League Baseball Players Association. He offers pre-draft advice to amateur high school and collegiate baseball players anticipating a career in professional baseball. For those athletes who are draft eligible, he advises his clients with a statewide, regional and national statistical analysis in order to enhance a player’s position in the draft and subsequent negotiations with the player's professional ball club. As chair of Verrill Dana’s Sports Law Group, David delivers full-service representation to professional athlete clients with aggressive advocacy and advice.
His representative services on behalf of professional baseball players includes contract negotiation, contract enforcement; promotion of product endorsements and personal appearances; reviewing investment recommendations and proposals with investment and financial consultants, insurance brokers and tax professionals.
Mr. Abramson has represented players associated with the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers, and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. Most importantly, David believes that a successful relationship with his players is based on the establishment of trust that enables the player to reach full potential on the field while minimizing off-field distractions.
David is active in local Little League as a manager and coach, and was one of the founding coaches for the AAU Maine Mariners Baseball Club of South Portland. When not traveling to see his players during the baseball season, David can be seen with his family at Hadlock Field as one of the original season ticket holders for the Portland Sea Dogs.
