David Law is a partner in the the firm Employment and Labour Law group in Ottawa. He provides advice, education and advocacy for organizations dealing with labour, employment, occupational safety, workers’ compensation, not-for-profit organizations, accessibility (AODA) and governance. David is national co-leader of Gowlings’ OHS Practice and executive editor of the firm’s Employment and Labour Law newsletter.
David has represented parties at the Ontario Provincial Court, Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared before Boards of Arbitration, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Coroner’s Inquests and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
A member of the Queen’s University Faculty of Law, he has taught at the Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre, the Rotman and Sprott Schools of Business, Osgoode Professional Development, the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. David is a Director of the Ottawa Food Bank, a Governor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, a Director of the Elmwood School and active in other community groups. He is the former Chair of Government Relations for the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations. David was named an “Outstanding Community Health and Safety Leader” by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers in 2012.
