Damien is a corporate and taxation law expert with a focus on the mining and resources sector. He acts for public and private clients in unregulated mergers and acquisitions, resources law, taxation, stamp duty, capital gains tax, foreign investment regulations, and business structuring.
He has also advised on the structures for, and established, many joint ventures, partnerships, and corporations and his clients span the mining, base metals, energy and financial investment industries. Damien has structured, negotiated and drafted more than 30 joint venture arrangements.
Damien is known for having designed and implemented many of the more sophisticated structures for asset development and ownership within the resources industry. His team is recognised as ‘a prominent feature of Queensland’s resources sector’ in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 which adds that the team delivers ‘in-depth sound advice’.
He has developed his tax expertise over the years after a solid grounding in general commercial law. Damien has the skills to identify taxation and revenue issues relating to a particular client or transaction and design and implement cost effective solutions to those issues.
His revenue advice encompasses income tax, capital gains tax, goods and services tax, and indirect taxes including stamp duty and payroll tax.
Damien is a leader within the firm having been on the firm’s Operations Committee since its inception in 2001.
