Since 1995 Bernhard Heusler is active as a corporate lawyer. Since 2014 he is also active as a legal advisor at Walder Wyss.
Born in 1963, Bernhard Heusler studied at the university of California Davis (postgraduate studies 1994) and the university of Basel (lic. iur. in 1988 and Dr. iur. in 1992). He successfully graduated both studies with summa cum laude. Before joining Walder Wyss in 2014, he was a partner for 14 years of a leading Swiss law firm with offices in Basel, Bern and Zurich. Since 2003, Bernhard Heusler has devoted his time increasingly to the FC Basel 1893. Initially contracted as a legal advisor to the board, he was elected as Vice President of the FCB 1893 in 2006, and as delegate of the board took over the responsibility of managing the club’s day-to-day operations since 2009. Since beginning 2012, he has assumed the role of president of the football Club. He is registered with the bar registry of the canton of Basel-Stadt.
Bernhard Heusler is predominantely active as a board member in various companies and is very experienced in giving legal advise to clients regarding transactions, corporate law and specific outsourcing projects, such as in the field of IT (publication «IT-Vertragsrecht», together with Roland Mathys, 2004). The following activities in relation with his leading position at the FC Basel 1893 are also (i) membership in the Swiss Football League Committee, (ii) activities as a club representative in the European Club Association, (iii) representation of Switzerland in the UEFA Club Competition Committee, (iv) participation as an expert in the FIFA Working Group for Reorganization of Agents’ Issues as well as (v) his acting as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS/TAS) in Lausanne. Presentations at events in the range of business management and team-leadership are also important activities of Bernhard Heusler.
Bernhard Heusler is president of the «Stiftung für kranke Kinder in Basel» (a foundation for ill children) and is regularly part of patronage committees of charitable and cultural organizations in the region of Basel.
