Alex Pike is a partner in the Environmental and Energy practices. She advises clients on environmental law issues in transactions such as mergers, real estate acquisitions, lending transactions, securities offerings and leasing. Alex provides advice to sponsors, proponents and lenders with respect to environmental assessments and environmental and energy permitting.
She provides technical and strategic advice to various industrial sectors including mining, manufacturing, chemical, pulp and paper and real estate. In the energy sector, Alex has worked on various transactions related to gas, oil sands, hydroelectric, nuclear and renewable energy initiatives. She has advised clients on issues related to greenhouse gas emissions, emissions trading and carbon risk disclosure.
Alex advises clients in matters relating to environmental management and compliance, including brownfields liability, air and wastewater emissions, waste diversion and disposal, asbestos management, PCB storage and disposal, new substance notification and Fisheries Act violations. She assists clients facing regulatory investigations or enforcement, and coordinates worldwide compliance audits.
Alex represents clients before Ontario's Environmental Review Tribunal and provides environmental expertise in insurance and civil litigation cases, including class actions. She has a special expertise in environmental issues in insolvencies, including with respect to director and officer liability.
