Between 1979 and approximately 2000, Michael W. Drye primarily handled family law cases. Beginning approximately 2000, Mr. Drye began a mediation practice in conjunction with his litigation practice, mediating primarily family law cases involving equitable distribution, alimony, child custody and child support. Mr. Drye became certified to conduct family law mediations in 2003 and Superior Court mediations in 2005. Mr. Drye spends approximately 50% of his time mediating cases and 50% of his time handling family law cases. The majority of cases Mr. Drye mediates involve cases in which mediation is pending but a plurality are pre-litigation cases. Oftentimes, the cases involve complex issues involving valuations of closely held businesses, embedded taxes, and best characterization of income streams to maximize tax benefits and other factors. Since approximately 2000, Mr. Drye has successfully mediated approximately 1000 family law cases, the overwhelming majority of which resulted in a mediated settlement agreement.
