Since its inception in 1969, Hovde Dassow & Deets has built a reputation as tenacious and well-prepared trial lawyers and one of the most prominent personal injury law firms in Indiana. The firm’s four attorneys have over 110 years of combined experience and have become known for their positive, hands-on approach to litigation.

“In many personal injury law firms today, the attorneys have very little or no personal contact with their clients,” says attorney Nick Deets. “In our opinion, this is not an effective way to represent a client. Our attorneys are personally involved with the clients from the initial meeting until the case is closed. The more familiar we are with our clients’ problems, the more effective we are fighting for them in settlement negotiations and in the courtroom.”

The firm only handles cases for plaintiffs. It handles all types of personal injury and wrongful death cases including automobile and truck accidents, medical malpractice, product liability, and pharmaceutical/medical product litigation. The firm has been recognized by U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” as a tier one Indianapolis law firm for its expertise in personal injury, medical malpractice and product liability litigation every year since the rankings began. In addition, attorneys Boyd Hovde, Rick Hovde and Nick Deets were again selected for inclusion in this year’s edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

The attorneys personally interview every client before accepting employment, and devote the time and resources necessary to take a case to trial if a satisfactory settlement is not obtained. They have obtained over 200 jury verdicts on behalf of injured clients. Deets notes, “Most defendants will not fairly compensate someone who has suffered significant injuries or has lost a loved one unless they are convinced that the attorneys on the other side are willing and able to take the case to trial and win.”

An example of the firm’s creative successes is a case involving a 24-year-old former marine who lost the use of his legs after he was injured at the steel factory where he worked. He was transporting steel coils when the moving device allowed a 3,000 pound roll of steel to fall on him. During the initial interview of the client and his family, the Firm’s attorneys learned that the employer had redesigned the moving device’s hook following this accident to eliminate the possibility of a similar occurrence in the future. Since a product liability case would have been very difficult under Indiana law, the firm filed the case in New York. After litigating the case for ten years, and making several trips to New York’s appellate courts, they ultimately secured a significant settlement for their client.

The firm’s attorneys have been recognized by the most prestigious trial lawyer associations for the excellence of their legal work, including the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers. In addition, all of the firm’s attorneys are actively involved in the local community and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.
